  PERSONALITY.   An introvert who tends to lean towards being a bit melancholic. He will not be the center of attention if he can help it, and is perfectly content to observe and listen.

All documentation indicated that Osric was the eldest child of Benedict and Camilla Slater.
Rumors indicated that he was the eldest child of Kenward Slater, Benedict’s younger brother and Camilla. The rumor was never confirmed and any documentation that may have indicated that the eldest Slater was sired by anyone other than Benedict was never found, but this didn't change the truth that was well known within the walls of the Slater estate.Raised as heir apparent to a house that was raised to nobility due to its military service, Osric spent a majority of his time growing up being taught several things. That his needs were secondary to that of the house (his parents, his sister, or whomever happened to have need of him) and the inner workings of his house with the understanding that military service would be expected at some point - that point came after the death of his parents.One of the requests listed within his parents will was that he fulfill his ‘duty’ as a Slater and enlist - and ever the dutiful son, he followed through on their request, despite the arguments from his younger sister, Edalene. Osric quickly rose through the ranks, obtaining the title of Dragoon - at which time he was assigned to the small village of Bleakpoint in the Western Highlands. The village was, at the time, home to ‘heretics’ who turned on Osric after several weeks - he barely survived the attack, but not before slaughtering all who were there - this led to several questions from his superiors, and led to him questioning his loyalty not only to the organization, but to the city he was supposed to be fighting for. He left Ishgard shortly thereafter, leaving his house in the care of his sister - a decision that was the cause of a rather significant rift between the two.After a brief stint as a wandering mercenary Osric joined the Ashen Wolves, where he met Vahalia Cress, and shortly after joining the Wolves a mission led to a return trip to Bleakpoint. Very little is known about the outcome of that mission, only that several weeks later what remained of the village was left burnt to the ground. No one is quite sure how this occurred.

Osric eventually returned to the fold in Ishgard, retaking the reins from his sister as news of his betrothal to Vahalia Cress began to spread.The arrangement appeared beneficial on paper, providing Osric with an opportunity to do something he had been longing for since his youth - see his house abolished and the name fall to nothing, and in turn he would support Vahalia in her endeavors and progress the fortunes of House Cress."The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry." So too did this.The marriage was brief - lasting a mere 6 months before ending in divorce due to irreconcilable differences. Osric left everything to a then very pregnant Vahalia, choosing to change his name and take up the name Giroux and pursue other endeavors of his own, while also continuing to support Vahalia in what ways he could.The pair have since welcomed a set of twins - Idalia and Evran. There is some question regarding the paternity of Evran, however Osric made the decision prior to the twin's arrival that he would do everything possible to make sure that they would have the opportunity to have a childhood, an upbringing unlike what he experienced. Regardless of who the biological father is - Evran and Idalia are both his, in so far as he is concerned.Osric continues to work odd mercenary jobs as needed to supplement his income - but having been gifted a pair of wolves by Vahalia prior to their divorce, he has since shifted his attention to training similar animals for protection purposes.His time is equally split between his home in the Coerthan Highlands and the Black Water Bay to spend time with Evran and Idalia.

  Edalene Slater | Sister   Younger sibling and one of his most ardent defenders during their childhood, Edalene and Osric's relationship has been turbulent in recent months due to decisions made prior to his marriage. The relationship appears to be on the mend since his divorce - but there is distance that may never be completely repaired.

  Hyaka Taka | Acquaintance   Originally a co-worker from the Ashen Wolves, and now a Knight of House Cress, Hyaka has always been one to lend a listening ear and a supportive presence. He's a good man, a fine leader, and one of the few Osric would consider close to being a friend.

  Idalia and Evran Cress | Daughter and Son.   The twins Osric shares with Vahalia Cress. Though Evran is not biologically his - Osric has accepted the boy as his own, regardless, and made the decision to raise him as his own, along with Idalia. The twins are his world.
There is nothing he would not do for them.

  Castien Bancroft | Acquaintance   Osric met Castien briefly during his betrothal to Vahalia, but it wasn't until after his divorce that he had the opportunity to spend time with her. Understanding, willing to lend an ear, the cartographer offered sage advice at the time and friendly company. Osric can't help but think there's more than meets the eye behind those red eyes and her pinky wave, but she has been kind and supportive and so he will be so in kind. She is currently under the employment of Vahalia Cress.

  Valeria Cress | Former Sister-in-Law | Deceased   Twin sister of Vahalia, Osric always found Valeria to be a kind and comforting presence within the Cress estate - though his interactions with her during his six months there were limited. A bit frail in appearance, he always had the idea that she was a bit more resilient than she seemed. Recent events have led to her sudden and tragic loss.

  Vahalia Cress | Ex-Wife   Conflicted may be the best way to describe Osric's feelings towards his ex-wife. One would be hard pressed to find two individuals with ideological beliefs further apart. He was never supposed to fall in love with her - and he did. He knows those feelings were never returned. He has set aside what remained of those feelings and moved on in favor of supporting her and caring for their shared children, who in his mind will always be the priority.

01. Ishgardian Nobility - House Slater was a minor noble house prior to being abolished in the marriage to House Cress. Osric has been in and around Ishgardian nobility for a majority of his life. Though he's no longer part of that world now - if you are, there's a chance you may have run into him.02. Military Life - Osric was part of the Ishgardian military force towards the end of the Dragonsong War. If part of the war effort, there's a good chance you crossed paths with him at least once before he left Ishgard the first time.03. Wandering Mercenary - It took a while for Osric to settle, and he was part of a few different mercenary groups. If your character tends to travel as part of a mercenary group, they might have come across him there.04. Training Grounds - Though he's no longer part of an active group, Osric will still take on a contract to supplement his income. In order to stay sharp he trains regularly - he can often be found at local training grounds for sparring purposes.

05. Dad First - There is nothing in his life that is more important than his children - and nothing that will take priority over his children. He's very open and honest about this.06. Must Love Dogs - Or wolves in this case. Osric has three that he's currently working with, with intention to take on and training/breeding more. Outside of spending time with his children, training the wolves takes up the remainder of his time.

The Cast

  Edalene Slater | 28.   Former information broker, Edalene is now under the employment of her now former sister-in-law, working aboard the Sirensong and among those in Blackwater Bay. She utilizes the skills that served her as a broker to continues to gather information as needed, see various tasks of the Sirensong to completion, and assist with various tasks around Blackwater Bay. Sassy, stubborn, and a bit closed off, Edalene does her best to keep most at arms length. Which version of her one 'gets' depends on her mood. She has work, she has 'purpose', and family (even if the relationship is beyond complicated) - everything else she can sort out later. Maybe.

  Ricard Blythe | 30.   Information broker with a devil-may-care attitude, Ricard enjoys playing the game. Always eager to learn more about what makes people tick - his curiosity is both a strength and a weakness. It's earned him a fair amount of gil, and caused him no shortage of headaches (and heartache) along the way.

  R'zevi Tia | 28.   Quiet and reserved - R'zevi once begrudgingly played the part of a wandering mercenary - preferring to be meditating and helping others to taking on new contracts -, picking up contracts solely because the gil was needed. Events occurred over the last two years that shattered his worldview and he has since leaned in to the mercenary perspective - never staying with one company for long, but picking up jobs regularly. The 'zen' side of him is rarely seen these days.

  Erik Reede | 30.   A physician who seems to have built himself up from nothing - there is very little known about the man before his arrival in Ishgard. 'Master' Reede doesn't tend to venture into high society often, choosing to focus on his clientele, which has been rumored to be everything from those in the Brume (pro bono work) to those among the upper echelons who simply don't want their business known. The truth of the matter may never be known. The man himself certainly isn't sharing. He simply smiles and shrugs with a claim that he manages to 'get by'.

  Delwyn Baines | 29.   Right-hand man to Ricard Blythe, Delwyn is the man behind the curtain. While Ricard plays the forward facing role, Delwyn keeps the operation running behind the scenes - and he's damn good at it. Observant, hard-working - Delwyn does what he has to in order to get the job done, and he's not afraid of getting his hands dirty - even if it means butting heads with his boss on a regular basis.
